Hammock Joy

I set up my hammock in the back yard of my rent house today. Immediately, when I lay down I felt a joy. It seems to radiate from the fabric that makes up the hammock. This Yucatan, woven hammock of red and purple and blue, has been in a bag for months. This summer was simply to brutal to enjoy time in the yard. Today, I set one loop of the hammock over the hook of the frame, unwound the threads and pulled it taught to reach the other hook. The first test lie down of 20 minutes was the most profound, but I did find that my butt came too close to the ground. I adjusted the chains on the frame to tighten and raise the hammock. Now it is at a comfortable height for rocking and blogging.

I hear the activity of the Intermural Fields… the wild Monk parakeets and the equally wild UT student teams competing. I see Trixie lying in the yard watching the birds, on lookout for squirrels. I feel a cool breeze gently flowing in the air. I feel peace, and a little neck strain at the angle to see the netbook screen… gotta work on that :)
